Episode 11 - N&W 611J Sighting & More Scenery Work

It's been a while since I posted and with good reason, but I'll get into that more later. We have a great update on the J&B Shortline Layout with a new addition to the fleet - the N&W 611 J Northern! This loco holds a special place in my heart as my recently deceased father had the opportunity to drive that beast in Strasburg a few years ago. You heard that right....unfortunately my father has passed away. While I will never be the same as a result, I will save my thoughts for another upload. For anyone going through the loss of a close loved one, I am hear to listen if you need it. As for the layout....we're finally making some mountain progress. New Shoes for the 3.0L Duramax Sierra

If it doesn't snow the rest of the winter in the northeast US, ya'll can thank me later! I finally broke down and replaces the 62K-mile Wrangler DuraTracs with gorgeous Falken Wildpeak AT3 All Terrains. I originally did a video the day I bought them but I'm glad I got some miles on them before doing my review...there's one particular attribute that they have that may make you think twice before you get these for the long haul!

The Sierra keeps moving along....and while she's been awesome for the majority of the time I've had her, its not all sunshine and rainbows. At this point, at just slightly over 62000 miles, she's quickly starting to show signs of wear. Do I still love her? Absolutely. Are there things that are starting to get worrisome as I continue to drive her back and forth to Maryland??? Definitely. Follow along with a rather long rambling review as I try to cover my thoughts and trip through an all too family opening activity - an oil change. FINALLY making progress! The supply chain is not great...it has taken over a month to get a few parts but that's the life of someone trying to do things a little differently! In any event this episode highlights the installation of a VCM OTR cold air intake system I bought second hand. Yes I got a smokin' deal...yes there were some problems. I've been looking for this accessory for quite some time - train shows, ebay, etc. Just when I figured I wouldn't be able to find it (it was made in 2012), I accidently trip over one at local train store, Nicholas Smith Trains. I'm doing a little different format for these videos to keep them on the shorter side - more rapid-fire updates instead of the mega-updates that put you to sleep! I love working with other folks in the video community and am working on a series where you'll get to race me and be featured on this channel! I don't just go straight either! This year I'll be learning how to make turns but I am not slowing the car up at all!!!

You'll also get a chance to share with my family and I a hobby that's been a large part of my life since I was a baby - model railroading. It is damn near as expensive as owning a car, so I will try to give you tips I've learned via word of mouth or just bad decision-making on previous builds!
